How we work. How we work. A tour of the AlgoVend strategy builder for traders who do not code.
Most experienced traders are not software engineers. They know what an opening range breakout looks like, they know why they want an RSI filter under thirty-five, and they know how much of their account they are willing to risk on a single stock. Historically they had two bad choices: pay a freelancer to write code they could never verify themselves, or wrestle with complex visual block diagrams that broke the moment they wanted a basket of ten stocks.
We built the AlgoVend editor around a simpler idea: any strategy the engine can run can also be read back deterministically as plain English sentences, with every number, percentage, and time editable in place.
Start from a working rule, not a blank screen
When you open the strategy builder, you do not start with an empty file. You pick from eleven ready-made strategy families—covering NIFTY weekly option spreads, multi-stock swing mean reversion, long-term trend following, momentum breakouts, and intraday trend rules—each available in conservative, balanced, and aggressive risk presets.
Picking one creates your own working copy and opens it directly on the Rules tab. If a strategy trades a basket of ten NSE companies, the sheet groups the ten identical stock rules into a single card, so changing the RSI threshold from 35 to 30 or the stop-loss from 8% to 6% updates all ten companies in one edit.
Three views of the exact same strategy
- Rules (the plain-English sheet): Reads the compiled strategy back as clear sentences—what it trades, how it sizes positions, when it enters, and the exact order it checks exits. Click any highlighted number or time to change it.
- Chat (describe it in your own words): Tell the assistant what you want to build or change. It restates the rule in plain words first, asks 'Shall I build it?', compiles the result, and hands it back to you as a rule sheet.
- Code (AlgoScript): For traders who want direct access to the underlying DSL, the full code is always one tab away, staying in lockstep with every edit you make on the sheet.
Whether you change a number on the rule sheet, ask for it in chat, or type it in code, it compiles to the exact same strategy and goes through the exact same backtest engine.
From first edit to five-year backtest in two minutes
Beside the rule sheet sits the readiness gate. As you edit, it checks in real time that every symbol resolves on NSE or NFO and that every rule is executable. One click runs the strategy over historical candles with brokerage and slippage included; once you are happy with the backtest, the same strategy runs on live market ticks with pretend money before ever touching your broker.
If you take one thing away
Start with one of the eleven prebuilt families, read its rules in plain English, change the numbers to match your own discipline, and let a five-year backtest tell you whether the change helped.
Every strategy family on AlgoVend can be opened as a plain-English Rule Sheet, edited without code, and tested with real brokerage.
